about The Designer
Born in the snowy mountain town of Taos, Madison began her artistic journey as a painter before expanding into documentary filmmaking, pursuing a semi-professional path in cosplay, and ultimately evolving into the seamstress and fashion designer she is today.
She studied costume design for performance and new media at University of New Mexico and completed the film technician program at Central New Mexico Community College. After earning her BA in design, Madison worked freelance in the New Mexico film industry, contributing to both feature films and independent productions.
Now based in Albuquerque, Madison has become an influential creative force within the city’s arts and fashion community. She is a founder of PuffBuggs Closet, a design collective located along Route 66, where local sustainable fashion designers are given a platform to sell their handmade clothing and connect with the community. Through this initiative, she has helped foster a more accessible and collaborative space for ethical fashion in Albuquerque.
Her impact extends across major local events and immersive art experiences, including Albuquerque Fashion Week’s Night Aquatic showcase, programming connected to Meow Wolf’s House of Eternal Return such as Absolute Rubbish, and experimental creative gatherings like Unknown Garden. These contributions have positioned her as a key figure in shaping Albuquerque’s imaginative and sustainability-driven arts culture. In recognition of her work, she received a Creative Bravos Award from the City of Albuquerque.
Madison now operates a new studio in downtown Albuquerque, where she continues to grow her practice while mentoring the next generation of designers. Through hands-on guidance and educational workshops, she teaches classes that emphasize both technical skill and sustainable design principles, helping emerging creatives develop their voice in an evolving industry.
Currently, she works as a freelance fashion designer, tailor, and digital marketer (and proud dog mom). Her designs embody the ethereal, whimsical spirit of “The Land of Enchantment,” blending elements of childhood nostalgia with a strong commitment to eco-conscious practices. Rooted in sustainability, her work challenges the norms of fast fashion by prioritizing reuse, thoughtful creation, and reducing waste in an industry often defined by excess.
